I have never used it before, anyone use it before.

I just cleaned the m39 , all cosmoline is gone, stock was a little sticky when i first got it. went over it with murpheys oil soap, lite mix, and 0000 wool, cleaned up nice, scrubbed on, quick wipe off, didn't want to saturate wood with water ,nice and clean and smooth, didn't lighten it to much.

A buddy of mine says the howards feed and wax works great on older stock, its made up of bees wax, canuba, and orange oil, has a very light smell of orange. Im looking to protect and shine up the wood.

I have never used the Howard's wax but I have used a product called "Tom's 1/3 Mix Military Gunstock Wax" It works great and is available from their website http://www.thegunstockdoctor.com/

If you don't want to wait the few days for shipping, I have a couple of cans available.

I have used Howard's on all my wood stocks and furniture. I put it on and leave overnight. It preserves and protects all wood

You could just use the tried and true plain old boiled linseed oil. When applied correctly it will give a easy to use durable authentic finish , that can be easily touched up or reapplied any time.
The Finns also used pine tar on their Mosin stocks but it's not as user friendly as BLO.

I use two products on my guitars as recommended by the Taylor guitar company. Boiled Linseed Oil sourced from Ace Hardware and Turtle Wax Express Shine (pump spray, carnuba based) sourced from Walmart. The Oil goes on the unfinished wood (wipe on sparingly and wipe off excess) and the Express Shine goes on the finished bits.

I do this infrequently as I don't want to build up a layer of gunk. If these items are recommended for fine wood instruments I'm sure they would be good for fine wood furniture on your firearms. Plus each container is practically a lifetime supply for not much $$.

I've used it on a couple of stocks after finishing, it seems to work pretty well. I've tried it as a final buff and fluff over a linseed oil finish, and over com-bloc shellac. It puts an extra bit of shine on, and seems to work good for a gentle cleaning, probably due to the citrus oil in it.

I like the way blo looks om stocks, I have used it a couple of times. For this application I needed to clean the gunk off of it,and just keep it perserved.I cleaned it with the Murpheys soap.wiped off ,let dry and applied a couple coats of the howards, i had never used it before, but I really like the result. I will post pics later.

have used howards lots, good stuff, but i prefer tom's wax mentioned above for my military guns mostly these days.

plus tom is just an average collector like us active in the online community and im glad to support his product.

Thanks guys, I was going to use Blo, but just wanted to clean and protect it, go with a natural shine.

I had looked at Tom's, a friend suggested the Howards, I had never used it .

BLO is a permanent finish, if your rifle has a BLO finish, then giving it a refresher coat can really help, the best way imo for military rifles is to use some 0000 srteel wool to scrub in a thin blo coat.

once thats dry, if it doesnt need any more coats, then go ahead and give it a coat or two of howards or tom's to help protect it.

the wax is not a permanent finish, its a surface protection, so that you wear out the wax, notthe finish, and then every now and then you give it another wax coat to protect it and keep it looking nice.
